Dear Friend and Neighbors,
Welcome to the Town of Shawangunk, located in Southern Ulster County here in New York State. Our Town is split into two separate Hamlets which are Wallkill and Walker Valley. You will find that our Town is an exciting and wonderful place to live and raise a family. We have been named one of the safest towns to live in the United States and that is something we are extremely proud of.
Located right on the Wallkill River and at the base of the Shawangunk Ridge you will find that our rural Town is picturesque year-round. Established in 1788 our Town has a rich history and is home to growing communities that bring endless possibilities for all who come here from our parks, programs, schools – just to name a few.
Whether you are looking for a place to live, visit, start a business or anything in between our doors are always open.
John Valk, Jr.
Town of Shawangunk Supervisor
Welcome to Shawangunk, NY!
For people who have lived here for years, it’s pronounced “SHON-gum”. For others, it’s “Sha-WAN-Gunk”. Either way, we all agree it’s a great place to live, work, eat and play!
